At least we aren’t restricted from travel like some vicious ones we know. This is a celebration of Caitlyn & Ava’s liberation from torture and a celebration of our 5th wedding anniversary!
Being who I always have been, I’m always very spontaneous when I typically make big decisions. Now in June we were planning to go to Michigan and visit my best friend, brother and go “Up North” which we’ve been a thousand times. Â
I started adding up the costs of our June visit and was like whoa, it seems like we can go on a real family vacation somewhere new for less money.
My girls have never been on an airplane, never been anywhere interesting and so I took I vote on who wants to go to the tropics! At first they were upset they couldn’t go visit our home state, but I promised them we would return there for labor day weekend so we could walk the Mackinac Bridge. They were happy with that.
The other day Caitlyn said she wanted to go somewhere real and said the Bahamas. I laughed at her as if she deserved it, one, and two, because I thought costs would be extortionate. Out of curiosity I happened to browse through Expedia.com and found that we could have a tropical vacation cheaper and nicer than just going to Michigan. So I told everyone we are going to Puerto Rico in June and they were all very excited!!!
The costs are pretty cheap from here in Florida I discovered, but the only thing holding us back from the Bahamas is we do not have updated passports yet, but we will get them later on since we plan on more international travel.
We found a high rise condo with an amazing view of the Caribbean in Fajardo, PR on AirBnB with nearly 5 stars, a lot of good reviews and hosted by a “Superhost”. It cost around $980 for a whole week. It features 2BD/2BA, pool, kitchen, and a beautiful view, I think from the 21st floor!
We opted to rent a vehicle to drive around the island, and I rented much more professional photography gear (Canon Mark IV) to go with me, and of course some serious vacation insurance since it’s hurricane season then and crime does happen… plus I tend to do dumb things when trying to get the perfect shot!
We also booked a fun El Yunque Rainforest tour that involves waterfalls and rope swinging into the pristine water
Below are some pictures of where we are staying.
